Jacob & Esau.......
Well, it has been awhile since I've blogged. Why? Well, I've been having too much fun and not wanting summer to end!
In my last blog I mentioned a weekend away with my immediate family and extended family members. What a wonderful weekend that was. I think the host of the campground though needs to take some "sensitivity training classes." I can understand that being a host of a campground could get a little stressful....I haven't quite figured out why "Phyllis" treats campers the way she does....but she remembered me when I camped with my family 4th of July weekend and so she was nice to me.....that's another story for another time! And we didn't let her sour behavior dampen our weekend or our spirits either.
The first night around the campfire was a real hoot! My oldest brother, Toney, decided that he was going to play the "family historian".....boy did we hear some interesting stories .....some skeletons are best left in closets, I think. There were not only stories I never heard about family members, but I found out some interesting facts about myself, which I was too young to remember.
Fact #1: I used to eat spiders (I think this was to get attention) I don't ever remember doing this as a child....I think Toney told me I was about 3 or 4 when I did this. O.k......now I know why I DON'T like spiders! I hate spiders! I know that I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from eating spiders...and I have purposely blocked out this event from my memory!
Fact #2: I love Chihuahuas.....O.k......my brother Toney and his wife, Suzanne own 7 Chihuahuas. Suzanne is "Chihuahua Mama" (that's the name of her business). And boy is she! It was amazing to see how good she was with all of them and able to keep them corralled. Four of them were adults, the other 3 were puppies. They are so cute and small. We sat around the campsite and talked and held Chihuahuas all weekend long. I'd say it was very therapeutic! They crack me up. They all have little coats on them. Let's see if I can remember all their names. There's Apollo, he's a blue fawn. There was Delia...she was brown and had really long legs...very affectionate! And then there was Tessa, she had some attitude...light brown in color and then there was Isabella...the mom to the 3 puppy chihuahuas. Of the puppies, there are two boys and one girl.
The boys were named, unbenounced to us by Suzanne already. Which leads me to the point of my blog....after Patrick begged me for one of the boys...and I spent all of about 5 minutes contemplating, I decided that we would adopt one of the chihuahua boy puppies. Suzanne said that Patrick would need to name him. So Patrick walked away and came back about 10 minutes later announcing to the group that he had decided on a name for his new puppy. He told Suzanne and all of us that he decided that he would call his new puppy "Jacob". Suzanne looked at Patrick and said, "Why did you choose that name?" And Patrick said that he seemed like a Jacob to him. And I promptly on the heels of Suzanne's question asked her, "Why did you ask Patrick such a question like that; in that way?" Suzanne got this amazed look on her face and said, "Because that's what I called him after he was born....was "Jacob" because he came right out after his other brother...Esau!" Well....if that wasn't confirmation.....that this new little pooch was supposed to come home with us, I don't know what is? So Patrick spent the weekend, loving on his puppy "Jacob" and getting to know him. He's brown but has blue marks around his eyes and mouth and nose. Suzanne says he's gorgeous!
The next morning (Saturday) I was heading over to Suzanne and Toney's campsite (with my morning contribution to breakfast, bacon) and seeing Suzanne cooking at the stove, I say to her, "Suzanne..I was thinking something..." and before I could finish my sentence, Suzanne says, "You want Esau too..." I laughed and said, "yep...your right about that, no since splitting up the brothers. We'll take'em both!"
So, we will now have 2 more pets, the beginning of October. That is when they will be ready to come home with us. Jacob and Esau will be alot of work...but I think well worth the investment! We just wonder how our two cats, Nakita and Uma will deal with this? Yep, we are going to have some interesting weeks ahead of us!
Nicole was excited too, because she "technically gets Esau...since Patrick has Jacob" which is o.k. with her...now she has an excuse to look like Reese Witherspoon in "Legally Blonde" and go buy a Goochi doggie purse to carry around "Esau" in. She's loving that. She's already picking out his clothing and collar.
Patricks not so into all that stuff....but he does want a little coat for him so that he will stay warm!
So now we will have, 2 cats, 2 dogs and a lizard named SKID! Yep...it's the funny farm around here.
STILL LOOKING FOR A GOOD HOME: One sister....I'm tempted to take her too...but I think Rod might say, "Either it's me or the dogs??" (I don't think he'd like my answer!) anyhow, she's very sweet, black and white and very affectionate.
Oh, I forgot to mention their personalities. Suzanne has been keeping me aprised, sending pictures and emailing me about their budding personalities. Jacob is more calm and they both get along real well with each other, unlike the Biblical story!
Esau likes to bark and is quite fiesty!
So if you hear some fierce barking when you come to visit us, I may post a sign outside my door that says, "BEWARE OF DOGS". But remember, their bark is much bigger than their size!

Hey Paula,
Just had to say Hi! It is good to "find" you here in blog land! I've enjoyed reading your posts. I'm so glad you had a great time with family. I would say you definitely got confirmation about Jacob...what a great story! It is so amazing how these creatures work their way into our hearts! Guess that's all...just wanted to connect! Love ya!
Congratulations grandma! Hope your new additions settle in well. We added to our family this weekend adopting a neighbor's peach-faced lovebird. We're at ground zero in knowing how to care for her but we're googling and plan a trip to the library today to look for some books.
